Hopkins - Milton B.

Milton B. Hopkins, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, died at Kokomo on the night of the 16th. Mr. Hopkins was well known in this county, where he had charge of the Ladoga Academy for several years, frequently occupying the pulpit of the Christian Church of this city. He moved to Kokomo in 1868 to take charge of Howard University, a position which he occupied until about one year after his election to the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction on the Democratic ticket. He was an earnest worker in the cause of education. Had his life been spared, his influence would have been exerted during the present year against the proposed repeal of the County Superintendency law. -s
